- 10 minutes paid break for every full 4 hours worked. For example, for the 7.5 hour shift, there is one 10 minute break. For 8 hour shift there are two 10mins breaks.
- Manager decides when you go on 10 minute break. You cannot take a 10 minute break when the restaurant is busy.
- You can take 30 minute unpaid break for every 5 hour of worked. These breaks are optional and can be skipped if both employee and employer agree. If you want to take it you are required to let your manager know at the beginning of your shift to put this break in a schedule.
- For 30mins meal breaks, you must clock in and clock out for the duration of the break.
- During the break, you must either be in the staff room or go out into the alley through the back door. During the break, you are not allowed to stay inside the kitchen or guest area in the cafe or around the front entrance of the cafe.
- When the restaurant is very busy you might expect to take your break at the end of the shift.
- The first employee comes in – the first employee goes on the break. This is the rule that the manager enforces.
- Only one person can be on a break at any single moment. Team members should go on a brake one person at a time.
- When not on the break, you must actively work at all times either serving customers or doing side-works.
- You are allowed to eat and drink only at the rest area. Never keep personal drinks or food inside the restaurant.
- If you feel that you cannot wait until your break you can do a quick run to the restroom, drink a cup of water.
- Remember, when you step away from your station always let your peers know where you are going to and for how long, so team can cover for you accordingly.
